Research Paper on Interior Design Essay Example For Students

Research Paper on Interior Design Essay In this research, six aspects about Interior Design and Staging include the Origin of interior design, interior design and staging, designing process, education and training, professional organization, and my mentor information. Basically the history of interior design is quite uncertain. According to the article â€Å"Interior Design History†, â€Å"Nobody really knows for sure how the history of interior design first begin though you can easily imagine that the rich and wealthy right through the annals of history has always wanted their homes well decorated and filled with exotic furniture† (1). In other words the origin of interior design still remains uncertain because going back in time before Jesus Christ, fortunate people always like their houses embellished with beautiful ornaments. Also, researches show that the history of interior design goes way back to the roman time, Italian Renaissance and the industrial revolution (â€Å"Interior Design† 1). Although they are somehow different, interior design and staging are both about decorating a space. Starting with staging, Weinstraub quotes, â€Å"Home staging is about illusion†¦. It’s all about dressing the house for sale† (1). This quote means all homeowners or interior designer in need sell their house makeover their house by decorating it, adding and removing some items to make it desirable to buyers. The purpose of interior design is to make a house look larger, brighter and lovely; staging a house also gives home buyers the desire to buy it (Weinstraub 1). The price for staging a house varies. Weinstraub comments, â€Å"Fees range from $500 to $5,000 or more depending on square footage and the number of room staged† (1). The cost for home staging may cost less or more depending on the size of the house or the number of room. The money supply for staging may come from bank loans, savings, family, or issued stocks (Ball 89). Next, Ball writes, â€Å"Interior designers plan and provide for the inside of buildings in order to make them as functional, beautiful, and meaningful as possible† (1). The principal task of an interior designer is to design and plan how to occupy the space to make fit with the mood of the client. Interior design improves health; it raises a profile and boosts a business staff (â€Å"What Is an InteriorDesign† 1). Three types of interior design are ergonomic design in which the designer works on the space design and furniture design, Elder design which concern is to make a place comfortable to people with disabilities and environmental design taking care of construction material selection and furniture selection (â€Å"Interior Designers† 2). To be successful, the designer must have the following characteristics: be creative, artistic, organized, skilled business and use his imagination (â€Å"What Is an Interior Designer†1). Meeting the artistic requirements involves planning the place, visualizing, knowing the material and product, and they also furnish spaces. The interpersonal communication call for the designer to meet and deal well with people, be a leader and a team player, Pay attention, and be a good negotiator (â€Å"What Is an Interior Designer†2). Matthew states, â€Å"They should have artistic and creative talent, as well as good business sense and the ability to solve problems† (4). A good interior design must have the characteristic of an artist and be talented in creativity; he also has to have some knowledge in business and know how to solve a problem. A designer must also establish a time strategy. This means that he must have a perfect time and management abilities; He must understand business planning , sell his ideas, be persuasive and maintain good relationships with the client ( â€Å"What Is an Interior Designer† 2). Interior design involves six types of designer. First, there is the interior designer who plans and furnishes the space. Second, there is the architect who takes care of the interior s chemes, building projects and the surface design (â€Å"Who Does Interior Design† 1). The third type of interior design is the interior architect; his level is between the interior designer and the architect; he also plans the space. In addition, we have the interior stylish. He dresses the space and decorates it, and he also does surface design. (â€Å"Who Does Interior Design?† 1). Then we have a fit-out company that takes care of the architect and interior design concepts. A home owner just decorates a space with his personality and his taste; that would be a stager (â€Å"Who Does Interior Design?† 2). The process of designing includes many steps. First, the designer must win a project, and this can be done by pitching for a job, competition, or a job recommendation (â€Å"Interior Design Process† 1). After he wins the project the designer starts programming; this involves meeting the clients, taking notes of the client’s preferences, visiting the place and predicts the installment and set up a budget (â€Å" Interior designers† 1). Essay about A Research Study On Quantitative Research EssayBall says, â€Å"A professional organization is a group of professional people who have banded together primarily because they have mutual occupation interest† (178). This quote means that a professional organization is a group of people having the same interest that agree to bound and work together. Companies create organizations so they can improve their common image and establish a long profession. These organizations allow companies to have relationships with other organizations and be social good distributors (Ball 118). The international interior design is based on the organization’s profession; the influence of profession in America (Ball 129).It is also based on the educational exchange of ideas, instructions, faculty and mostly the exchange of students (Ball 133). In contrast, the United States and other countries face a difference. Ball comments, â€Å"the reason for any such difference may derive from the fact that interior design work in the united states has been forced to face question of designing for the business world and thus of effecting some solution to contract design† (130). The United States differs from other countries because face and solve different question regarding interior design. The first organization was founded in 1931. It was called the AIID (American Institute of Interior Design), but it prompted during the great depression (Ball 119). The next nearly one is the ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), founded in 1975. It consolidated the AIID organization, and it was opened to all qualified designers (Ball 126). The largest organization is the IFI (International Federation of Interior Designers) (Ball 130). My mentor name is Amanda Holder; she is an interior designer for four years but had an education in architecture. Holder says, â€Å"I chose this career because it allows me to be creative and work with people† (Interview). Mrs. Holder went to Georgia Tech and received a degree in Architectural Design. She has about a year and half of work experience in the architecture field; some of which was focused on interior design. She started her own company in interior design and staging less than a year ago. The process of design Mrs. Holder learned in college was essential to preparing her for her career. Although it was not necessarily focused on interior design, the methods are the same whether the person is designing a house, a chair, or a stapler (Holder, Interview). She says, â€Å"My gr eatest strength is my ability to see potential. As an architectural designer, I dont accept a space for what it is, but what it could be. My weakness is probably my inexperience. Ive only been doing this a few years and experience can be so important to this field† (Holder, Interview). During the interview Mrs. Holder revealed the difference between interior design and staging. She said that interior design is about decorating the place to make it look nice. It takes the client taste in consideration, but also the designer can tone down the client taste to have better ideas and give specific process. Opposite from interior design, Staging takes out the client taste; it is more about personal style. Stagers want to make the house look nice and appealing. It is an over-do decorating to make the client feels like he is present in the place (Holder, Interview). Usually it takes twice the time the client think the project is going to last; there is no specific amount of time for a project to be done, but the designer must do some good guesses on time and meet them otherwise, he will start losing money on the project (Holder, Interview).
